5. Digital Literacy & Citizenship Introduction
As a Professional Learning Leader, it is important to model the proper, ethical and effective use of materials when working with teachers, regardless of the setting. From the videos we share with educators to handouts used in workshops to pictures and materials used in our presentations, we as leaders in the field must model what is ethical.
As outlined in the ISTE Standards for Coaches, Digital Citizenship is fundamental regardless of where you might lie on the educational spectrum. Professional Learning Learners provide similar influence with educators as Technology Coaches do, but are sometimes on a bigger stage with their audience. Standard 5, Digital Citizenship, is outlined as follows:
Technology coaches model and promote digital citizenship.
- a. Model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers
- b. Model and facilitate safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies
- c. Model and promote diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness by using digital age communication and collaboration tools to interact locally and globally with students, peers, parents, and the larger community.
